Are you looking for a dentist for your child? Are you needing help choosing what kind of dentist your child needs first? Let’s talk about the difference between a pediatric dentist and a family dentist. If you take your child to a pediatric dentist, we can provide services that family dentistry may not be able to provide. We offer a fun, safe , exciting environment where your child will want to come see us. They’ll look forward to having cleanings and we want to make you feel comfortable as possible. We offer the first three for free, which means that you can bring your child in unlimited amounts of times from birth to age 3, so we can get them on a healthy track. We can start their custom dental plan before they even have teeth. The first dental visit can be a big milestone and both you and your child will probably be nervous. What we provide is a tour of our facilities and your child will meet our dentist who was trained specifically in pediatrics. We will show them the tools that we use. We will introduce them to all of the dental hygienist that work here that way, no matter who they have when they come in, they’ll be familiar with that person.
You can be sure that as a pediatric dentist, we will understand your child and their emotions and
behavior, and we will set them up to have a positive experience with Dentists throughout their whole life. We understand the challenges that come with children’s teeth that may be a family dentist dentist doesn’t specialize in and are dentist and oral hygienist or experts and have had Extra training in the area of child development. We will also teach you as the parent to healthcare for your child’s teeth, we will teach you about the different growth stages of the teeth and how to have healthy habits later that will help later in life to keep them from having cavities, tooth, decay, gum, disease, or other dental problems that will run into very costly expenses later in life.
A lot of times parents don’t get dental healthcare for their child before the age of four or five or sometimes even later, but baby teeth are very important. They help your child speak and chew. They can also aid in the path that your teeth come in when they’re permanent and ready to erupt. We will also teach you about when the primary teeth will or approximately when the primary teeth will develop and erupt. We also go into teething and babies, gum, soothing techniques, things that you can do to alleviate the pain such as chewing on a pacifier or a piece of frozen fruit, that will help with the inflammation with your child’s gums while teething if there is a baby tooth that becomes dislodged or knocked out it does not cause an medium emergency and you can wait until normal business hours. There won’t be any treatment usually from a baby tooth if your child receives a broken chipped, permanent tooth or knocked out permanent tooth contact us as soon as possible, with early treatment, we can prevent infections and maybe save the need for extensive dental treatment
Sometimes parents worry about having x-rays with their child because they worry about the safety of the x-rays, but there is very little risk in their x-rays and we are very careful to limit the amount of radiation. We use lead aprons to make sure that the risks are minimized, and, we can use these x-rays by finding problems that may occur later on in life and have them off before they become a problem.
You may also have questions about using toothpaste with your child from the ages of one to three. Is it healthy? When can you start? You can actually start the sooner the better when your child is a baby you can clean their gums with a soft toothbrush or just a cloth and some water, once the teeth appear, we recommend you start brushing twice a day using floor toothpaste, but just use a tiny size amount on children from 2 to 5 years old. They should spit out and not swallow the toothpaste after brushing, but it is completely recommended that you start healthcare and tooth hygiene early on at home
As pediatric dentists, we recommend that you be very careful and prevent a baby bottle. Tay is also called Carrie and it’s caused by using sugary liquids, milk, fruit juice, other beverages, and a bottle and sending these to bed with your child and allowing them to sleep with anything over the water will definitely affect tooth decay. It will come quickly, if you are currently allowing your child to sleep with sugary drinks, please make those changes today. Delete the drink. It may take one week. Until there’s only water in the bottle your child may be fussy at first, but in the long run, this will benefit your child’s tooth care.
What type of diet is needed for good healthy gums and teeth? That will be something else. We will cover your visits by eating healthy. This will also help promote healthy teeth. Children need to have a balanced diet and foods that have a lot of carbohydrates will cause cavities and Will more than likely cause the child to have extensive dental work all throughout life in between meals. We recommend recommend only giving water to help cut down on the amount of acid that’s on the teeth and to give milk or juice times only by having healthy habits as young children, these will continue to carryover into adulthood, and your child will have a great start to healthy teeth and gums
Another service we provide is a sealant which is clear. We place it over the chewing surface of the tooth and they help fill in pits and grooves that are easily decayed. Some children just have natural genetic disposition to teeth with small cracks and even the 20th toothbrush bristle can’t fit down and clean those areas. It’s fast and comfortable and our sealants are all BPA free.
